Tuesday 8th August Gunna-Go Holiday Park, Proserpine

After doing some washing we headed to the main street of Proserpine. We had to do some general shopping but then headed to a shop in Proserpine that has become a tourist attraction, called Colour Me Crazy. It was the most amazing shop I have visited. It had a huge range of things from plants, pots and outdoor décor to jewellery, clothing, shoes and leather goods, all “fair-trade”. Rob elected to sit outside. I tried to look at everything as quickly as possible but it took me awhile. The shop was busy and many of the customers were tourists like me. After Rob patiently waited for me we drove out to another coffee plantation, Whitsunday Gold Coffee. This place had gorgeous gardens, a huge bird aviary, animals, indoor play areas for children, and a beautiful under cover area for people to enjoy food and drinks, filled with hanging baskets of fern and orchids. We enjoyed the coffee and were sitting not far from 140,000 coffee trees. We saw a number of MG sports cars that had stopped at the park while their drivers enjoyed a coffee. The local news said that there was a special MG drive on from Cairns to Mackay so we suspect that these cars and their drivers were involved in this.  After checking out some of the animals and the birds, we returned to the main street of Proserpine, where Rob had seen “Prossy Pies”. This bakery had good reviews so we went in and Rob had a pie and I had a quiche. Rob’s rating for this pie was very good with him saying it was the best one he has had since we left home. After lunch, I dropped Rob off at the Proserpine Golf Club and I visited the very comprehensive and excellent Proserpine Museum. I learnt so much and was a bit shocked to read that during the Second World War, Australians were involved with the USA in this area, testing “gas” on people! Once Rob had finished his 9 holes of golf, I met him at the club for a quick drink before heading back to the van.
