We decided to visit Airlie Beach, the nearby town on the coast. Airlie Beach is a pretty and busy place and has many high-rise, high-end vacation properties as well as large, modern marinas filled with huge yachts and boats. After parking the car, we went for a lovely walk along the esplanade boardwalk. We saw some of the magnificent boats and the boardwalk took us to group of lovely eateries, bars etc. overlooking the marina. We found a patisserie and stopped for coffee, before returning to the car. We drove into the main part of Airlie Beach, found a park and went for a walk along the main shopping strip. It was busy and the street was full of tourists like us. From here we drove to the Whitsunday Golf Club, an 18 hole, par 3 course. Rob decided he would play a round and he did exactly that. Meanwhile I sat on the deck, overlooking the very attractive course and read my book. It didn’t take Rob long to complete the 18 holes and he was quite pleased with the way he played. We drove on to the nearby but much quieter town of Shute Harbour, to have a brief look around before returning to Proserpine.
