Tuesday 1st August Cardwell Van Park

Leaving the park in Cairns was a little tricky but we had a lovely neighbour who helped and also we were lucky as the people who were directly opposite us had left their site earlier. The sites in this caravan park were extremely tight and our caravan was wedged between some lush tropical trees and vegetation and the cement slab. The rain had meant that all the grassed area was a bit of a quagmire. Anyway, as usual Rob managed very well. We had an uneventful drive to Cardwell except for the rain. In places it was very light in others, heavy. We decided to stop in Innisfail for coffee as it had stopped raining. After parking the van in a safe spot we had about a six minute walk to a recommended café located on the river. Unfortunately as soon as we started walking the heavens opened and it poured. We took refuge in a shop but decided to return to the car and van and not worry about coffee. We both were soaked! Arriving in Cardwell we were pleased to see that it had not been raining here and the weather looked good. After setting up and a quick bite for lunch, we went for a walk to the Information Centre, located on the foreshore. The information centre had a good display important aspects of the Cardwell area, flora, fauna and history. We continued a walk along the beautiful foreshore area and I enjoyed reading the many historical information boards along the foreshore. The view over to Hinchinbrook Island was beautiful and very inviting. Pity that you have to watch out for crocodiles, stingers and sharks! Our park is very comfortable and we are looking forward to our stay here.
