We had a slow start to the morning, doing some washing before heading to the small town of Monto, a 20 minute drive from the park. The town was quite sleepy, being Sunday morning but we managed to find one shop open for coffee. We checked out a few other places including some of the magnificent murals dotted around the town as well as the golf course before heading back to Cania Gorge. We had decided to complete a couple of the walks in the gorge on our return. Our first walk was a relatively easy walk to a place called Big Foot. Aptly named as on the sandstone cliff, there was a mysterious brown image of a four toed foot. Returning from this walk, we set off on a more vigorous uphill walk to view the Two Storey Cave. The circuit took us around isolated sandstone monoliths to view the caves. Bats lived in the caves so we didn’t venture in too far. This was an enjoyable and scenic walk which did involve some uphill sections and some rock scrambling so by the time we returned, we were ready for lunch. Following lunch, we put the kayak in Lake Cania and I went for a lovely kayak. I spent time exploring the lake viewing many kangaroos grazing near the shoreline of the lake, watching a multitude of birds and also many fish jumping out of the water and surprising me!
