Wednesday 12th July The Wharf, Maryborough

Today we joined a group of about 12 others for a free walking tour of Maryborough. Our tour guide, Wolfgang, was fantastic as was the whole tour. Even Rob was raving about it. The tour started in the magnificent town hall and council chambers where we learnt much about the early history of Maryborough. From there we visited various spots and learnt more about the incredible history and cultural development of this city. The impact of huge floods as recently as Feb. ’22 was very evident with some of the museums (like the one in the old Customs House) still unable to open due to ongoing repairs. The tour lasted about two hours and I was keen to go back and revisit many of the spots in the afternoon. Rob went off to play golf while I walked back into town and revisited the many beautiful buildings, including the art galleries and museums. Unfortunately by the time I went to visit the Mary Poppins museum, located in the old bank building and residence above the bank, where author, PL Travers was born, as her father was the bank manager, it was too close to closing time. I would not have time to view all the information in the museum. We will have to return! The stories of Maryborough can be found here.
