Sunday 16th July Ingham Tourist Park

Heading north towards Ingham today we encountered our first rain, well very light but steady showers. As we arrived quite early in Ingham, we stopped for a coffee before heading to the caravan park. The showers continued as we set up but abated when we had finished! After lunch we set out to visit the nearby Jourama Falls. Although we visited this area, last year this was one place we didn’t visit. The walk to the viewing area was very pleasant, following the creek, through rainforest and then an invigorating climb up a hill along a well-made track. The view of the falls was wonderful with the water tumbling and cascading down from a height into many smaller falls and rapids, There were also lovely areas near rock-pools where you could stop and relax. We headed back to town after this and then went to view a magnificent 60 mt. mosaic wall in a laneway which depicted the history of the Ingham area and the sugar cane industry. Lead by a historian and an artist, the mural used many volunteers to complete the project. From here we visited the amazing new Ingham cemetery. This was actually listed on the information board as a place tourists should visit and once we arrived we could see why. The cemetery was full of small ornate mausoleums. It looked like a little village. Ingham is known as Queensland’s “Little Italy” due to over half of people who live here are Italian or of Italian decent.
