Another “driving” day today as we made our way to Charters Towers with one stop at Belyando Crossing for coffee. Once again the parks at Charters Towers are all full so we were glad we had booked. After setting up, doing some washing and having lunch, we went for a drive. As this was our third visit here and being Saturday afternoon, we weren’t expecting to see anything much as most of the shops here close at 1pm. Last year we had noticed the start of a new display on a main road coming into the town. We investigated and found that it had been completed in Dec. last year and was very informative and impressive. It was based on the premise that Charters Towers was once known as “The World” due to the amount of gold found here. We spent time here, reading and taking photos.
