We decided to travel to our next destination, Dubbo via the small town of Eugowra. This town was famous for its murals of which it has over 30 but more recently it is known for the huge flooding the town experienced in November last year. As we drove into the town we noticed a large area which contained many demountable buildings, some on stilts. We also saw several of these buildings located on land in front or to the side of houses and it was clear that they were now being lived in. We went for a lovely walk around the town to view the murals and realised that many of the towns buildings and been either totally or partially under-water. The large catholic school was fenced off and had workmen in many of the buildings repairing damaged walls etc. We presume the students must have been bussed out of town to nearby schools. Many of the businesses, homes and shops were fenced off and in the process of being repaired from the flood damage they had sustained. In the centre of town the café was still under repair so a lovely little café caravan had been set up instead. Many people both, locals, tradies and tourists like us were stopping for coffee. Rob and I were very impressed with the resilience of the local people. You can see what happened in Eugowra here. https://youtu.be/ScFHfsTY30o
We continued
on to the large town of Dubbo. We have managed to book in here for 3 nights and
are looking forward to visiting the Open Plains Zoo on Thursday. In the
afternoon we spent a couple of interesting hours exploring the Old Dubbo Gaol.
