Monday 26th June Canowindra

Canowindra is a lovely little rural, historical town famous for bushrangers, small gold rushes and the discovery of “Fish Fossils” dating back 360 million years ago. This morning we visited “The Age of Fishes Museum” which houses some of the fossils and also much information.  We were very impressed with the display and it was extremely well set up for all ages. The museum was located at the information centre. Following this we visited a beautiful, café/gift/ Nursery store for coffee and then went for a walk to a swing bridge just out of town. We were unable to walk across the bridge as it was under repair from floods in Nov. 2022. We spoke to 2 of the workers who described how devastating the floods had been and how many of the nearby shops had water running through them and that the caravan park was completely under water. Apparently 2 people were drowned at the nearby town of Eugowra and the water levels rose extremely quickly. We then drove to a lookout which gave us a great 360 degrees view of the surrounding area. Rob then was happy for me to spend a little time wandering in the cemetery. After lunch I returned to the town centre to do another historical walk as I had picked up a pamphlet at the information centre which covered a walk through the town, highlighting the history of many of the buildings. Rob headed out to the local golf course and played a round of golf.
