Monday 3rd July Hat Head Holiday Park

Today we had a relatively short drive (2 ½ hours) to our next destination, stopping at the small town of Kew for coffee at a sweet, little corner store which was very busy. Hat Head Tourist Park is certainly busier that Myall Shores. The park is full of families enjoying the school holidays. The park is located between the outlet for Korogoro Creek and the beach. Many activities are available, the popular ones being surfing, fishing, walking, bike–riding and 4 wheel driving on the beach. We even saw some brave women swimming at the beautiful surf beach which is next to the park. We spent the afternoon exploring the area close by, going for a lovely stroll along the surf beach, followed by a drive out to a spectacular scenic lookout called the Gap. Here we had a wonderful experience watching a pod of about 9 whales’ not too far off shore. They were diving, and feeding as well as heading north. From here we drove to Hungry Gate and viewed more spectacular  coastal scenery. By then the light was starting to fail so it was time to head back to the caravan.
