It was a very calm start to the morning and we were up early as we were heading to Cairns Airport today to collect our friend Pat. We had a windy but easy trip down the mountains to Cairns. It was a public holiday in Cairns for the show so things were busy. In Yungaburra it was not a holiday as the children were going to school and the shops were open. We picked Pat up and headed to Mareeba, about 40 minutes inland. We stopped at Kuranda and went for a walk to view the Barron Falls. From here we continued on to a place just out of Mareeba for lunch. It was a coffee plantation and Rob and I had visited it a few years ago and really enjoyed the tour and the coffee and the lunch. Unfortunately, Mareeba was also celebrating the holiday and the coffee plantation was closed. We headed into Mareeba and luckily the Mareeba Historic Coffee café located at the Information Centre was open. Following lunch we visited a Nut shop, a creek (looking for platypuses), Atherton and finally Yungaburra. We went for a walk showing Pat the highlights of some of the Yungaburra before returning to the park and settling Pat into her unit.
